Overpass API developpement

Hi,

On the api.openstreetmap.fr instance I'm using a sysV script to start and 
stop 
related tasks of the overpass.

In the process of stopping things related to area building, it went smoothly 
for the rules_loop.sh script but osm3s_query kept on running.
I decided to kill -SIGTERM <it>
but it seams to have some undesirable side effet for area queries.

Is there a better way to terminate the process properly ?
